LAS VEGAS – Visitors to the AWS re:Invent show can experience Avnet’s Smart City demonstration, which leverages STM32 Microcontrollers from STMicroelectronics.
This demo, built on Avnet’s IoTConnect powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS), demonstrates how abnormal sounds (like a gunshot, glass breaking, car alarm) in a busy city street environment are detected and identified with precise location alerts.
The demonstration, which will take place at AWS re:Invent 2023 at booth 675 at the Venetian Convention and Expo Center in Las Vegas Nov. 27, leverages the power of Avnet’s IoTConnect Internet of Things (IoT) solution accelerator software that enables OEMs to simply create and deploy IoT solutions that are secure and scalable. It also demonstrates how to harness the power of STMicroelectronics’ low-power microcontrollers to enable artificial intelligence (AI) inferencing at the edge to minimizing the amount of data that needs to be sent to the cloud.
“Smart city applications, as demonstrated by Avnet, can enhance public safety by using edge AI technology for real-time monitoring and incident response,” said Marc Dupaquier, Managing Director of the AI Solutions at STMicroelectronics. “Our STM32 low-power microcontrollers can play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of security measures across a smart city’s infrastructure by providing prolonged battery life, continuous monitoring, cost-efficiency, real-time alerts and improved data security. Energy-efficient microcontrollers are key for machine learning and edge AI-enabled devices.”
“We are thrilled to work with AWS, STMicroelectronics and Avnet to harness the power of Edge AI technologies for our smart city initiatives and especially our IoT offering,” said Stéphane Gervais, EVP Innovation & Partnership LACROIX. “Edge AI is paramount for resilient AI at scale while unleashing new use cases tackling sustainable city’s needs.”
