The City of Phoenix and Mayor Kate Gallego recognized Avnet’s contribution to Arizona’s burgeoning technology industry by naming the company Export Champion of the Year.
Mike McCoy, chief legal officer, and Shaune Pittman, vice president of logistics for the Americas region, accepted the award at the Phoenix Sister Cities Global Links Luncheon. The program recognizes companies and individuals who are shining examples of how the Phoenix community serves as a platform for innovation and developing technology-based companies or services. The theme for this year’s event was “Innovations in Air Mobility.”
“While Phoenix continues to grow its reputation as a technology hub, it is also becoming known as a place where entrepreneurship and innovation is embraced and cultivated,” Mayor Gallego said. “We’re already a leader in the advancement of electric and autonomous vehicles on the ground, and are positioning the City to guide the future of how people and goods are transported through the air via that same type of technology.”
Avnet ships 218 billion units around the world every year, including more than 700,000 orders annually from warehouses in Phoenix. The logistics operations for all of Americas business has been in Phoenix since 1999.
“Having our headquarters and logistics operations in Phoenix enables us to better support our business partners, thanks to our strong employment base, variety of universities and secondary educational institutions, stable business environment and strong transportation infrastructure that enables us to ship products consistently,” said McCoy. “Calling Phoenix our home is a privilege to everyone at Avnet, and we appreciate all of our logistics employees whose hard work enabled us to earn this recognition from the City.”
