Munich – At InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin, from September 22 to 25, Panasonic Energy will present, for the first time in Europe, its innovative V-Cell based Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery technology for the European railway market at Hall 15.1, Booth No. 180. Visitors can experience a complete portfolio of railway battery solutions designed for a wide range of rolling stock applications, from high-speed trains to trams and low-floor vehicles.

The highlight of Panasonic Energy’s presence at InnoTrans 2026 is the European premiere of the V-Cell, a battery cell that has been developed, manufactured and successfully deployed in Japan for many years. Proven in demanding railway applications, including operation in Japan’s renowned high-speed rail network, the V-Cell now becomes available to railway manufacturers and operators across Europe, enabling new possibilities for high-speed operation.

V-Type Module Panasonic Energy

Key features of the V-Cell battery include its lightweight and space-saving

design, allowing to adjust to space contraints in high-speed operating trains. Its high energy density also contributes to improved efficiency and performance. Additionally, the compact and lightweight battery modules operates maintenance free and does not require electrolyte refill.

Life prediction, communication function, and a LED display are additional functions due to a built-in BMU.

“With the introduction of our V-Cell technology to Europe, we are bringing a proven innovation from Japan to the European railway industry,” said Carl-Frederik Riemenschneider, Head of Business Development at Panasonic Industry Europe. “The technology has demonstrated its reliability and performance in some of the world’s most demanding but also successful railway environments. We are excited to make this expertise available to European customers.”

For the first time in Europe, Panasonic Energy will showcase three different battery modules together as an integrated portfolio:

  • V-Type Module

Based on Panasonic’s innovative V-Cell technology, the V-Type module is designed for high-performance railway applications, including high-speed trains where reliability, energy density and long service life are critical.

  • F-Type Module

A versatile solution suitable for a broad range of railway vehicle platforms, providing operators and manufacturers with a scalable and flexible auxiliary power solution.

  • Ultra-Slim Module

Built around Panasonic’s F-Cell technology, the Ultra-Slim module is specifically engineered for space-constrained applications such as trams and low-floor rail vehicles, where installation space is limited.

Together, the three battery modules create a flexible battery ecosystem that enables railway manufacturers to select the optimal solution for different vehicle types while benefiting from a common, proven Ni-MH technology platform.

Proven Performance as a Competitive Advantage

While reliability is a prerequisite in the railway industry, Panasonic Energy differentiates itself through decades of successful operational experience in Japan. The company will highlight the extensive field-proven track record of its battery technology as an important benefit for European customers seeking dependable and sustainable energy storage solutions.

In addition to their proven performance, Panasonic’s Ni-MH battery systems offer long service life, maintenance-free operation, remote monitoring capabilities and the absence of environmentally hazardous substances such as lead and cadmium. The systems can also serve as an alternative to existing nickel-cadmium battery installations.

Meet Panasonic Energy at InnoTrans 2026

Panasonic Energy welcomes railway manufacturers, operators, system integrators, industry analysts and media representatives to visit the company’s booth during InnoTrans 2026 to learn more about the V-Cell launch and the complete railway battery portfolio.
