New Delhi: Finland-headquartered cloud data infrastructure company Aiven has formally launched its India operations, betting on rising enterprise demand for AI-ready, cloud-agnostic and open-source data platforms. The company, which has set up its first India office in Bengaluru, will use the country as a strategic base to serve the broader Asia-Pacific market.

The formal India launch was marked at an event in New Delhi on September 24 in association with the Finnish Embassy, underscoring the company’s push to deepen its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing technology markets.

Aiven currently has around 15 employees in India and plans to scale the team as its business expands. Hiring will focus on sales, partnerships, customer success, solutions engineering and other functions.

The Bengaluru operation will also work closely with Aiven’s distributed global workforce.

The company is positioning India not merely as a sales market but as a key part of its APAC growth strategy, with enterprises increasingly adopting cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence, real-time analytics and modern application architectures.

“India has moved far beyond being only a technology delivery centre. It is increasingly where cloud, AI and enterprise innovation are being built at scale. Our focus is to create a strong local partner ecosystem that can help Indian enterprises modernise their data infrastructure without being tied to a single technology or cloud environment,” said Pranay Shree, India Partner Leader, Aiven.

Aiven offers fully managed open-source technologies including Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, MySQL, ClickHouse, OpenSearch, Valkey and DataHub, allowing enterprises to run data workloads across major cloud environments while reducing the operational burden on internal engineering teams.

The company sees AI as a key demand driver. As organisations deploy AI and real-time applications, the underlying data layer is becoming more critical, requiring infrastructure capable of processing, storing and streaming information at scale.

“The AI conversation is ultimately a data conversation. Enterprises can build ambitious AI applications only when

the data foundation underneath them is scalable, reliable and flexible. India has the developer talent, digital businesses and cloud momentum to become one of APAC’s most important markets for this transformation,” said Ken Manuja, APAC Sales Leader, Aiven.

Aiven is also taking a partner-first approach in India, targeting relationships with cloud providers, technology companies, consultants and systems integrators. The company plans to engage more deeply with India’s developer and open-source communities through events, knowledge-sharing programmes and other initiatives.

A key pitch is avoiding vendor lock-in. Aiven said its platform maintains open-source flexibility across the data ecosystem, enabling customers to move workloads without being constrained by proprietary data formats.

The India expansion, the company said, is a long-term investment, with its local capabilities and partner network expected to grow alongside customer demand.
