UK Consortium Secures £3.1m for Integrated Private 5G Solution

Eight UK organisations, led by Bath-based network operator Aerix, win Innovate UK backing for advanced communications technology to show that sovereign UK 5G technology can be deployed and managed as a single integrated system

UK Consortium Secures £3.1m for Integrated Private 5G Solution

BATH, UK – Aerix, Antevia Networks, Spry Fox Networks, Noema Signal Labs, Attocore, RANsemi, Liverpool 5G and Bath & North East Somerset Council today announced the launch of MOSAIC-5G (Multi-vendor Open System Architecture for Integrated Connectivity).

MOSAIC-5G has been established to tackle the biggest barrier to commercialising UK-developed 5G technology that, while individual components are maturing fast, the engineering effort needed to combine them into complete, market-ready systems has meant that thus far, projects have been too complex for mass adoption.

The consortium will integrate Antevia’s UK Sovereign “5G SHIFT” Private Network, AttoCore’s 5G core, and Aerix’s management and service assurance platform into a single interoperable 5G Standalone Private Network which is deployable in hours rather than weeks, and managed through a single pane of glass.

Innovations include Noema Signal Labs’ award-winning NL-COMM signal-processing framework, which can deliver more than 100% gains in spectral efficiency and support 300%+ more connected devices at the same quality of service; Antevia’s iConn unified management platform, extended with AI-agent (MCP) network operations; Spry Fox Networks’ QuantumPath service assurance; AttoCore’s 5G core with edge break-out; and RANsemi’s UK-designed acceleration hardware.

The integrated system will be validated at three sites: a live industrial-robotics field trial with Extend Robotics, Aerix’s live 18-cell outdoor 5G network in Bath, operated with Bath & North East Somerset Council; and at Digital Catapult’s lab in London.

MOSAIC-5G is an 18-month, £4.3 million programme backed with over £3.1 million of Innovate UK grant funding under the SNPN 5G Assured Integration competition. The project will run from August 2026 to January 2028 and will create eight new high-skilled roles.

Dr Peter Gradwell, CEO of Aerix and project lead, said: “Deploying private 5G today means stitching together fragmented vendor tools. MOSAIC-5G will prove that UK technology can do better — a complete, sovereign, multi-vendor network that goes live in hours and is managed from one screen. It’s a statement of what the UK’s 5G ecosystem can deliver when it works as one.”

Simon Cosgrove, CEO of Antevia Networks, said: “Private 5G will only achieve widespread adoption when it becomes as straightforward to deploy and operate as any other piece of enterprise infrastructure. MOSAIC-5G is an important step towards that goal, bringing together best-of-breed UK technologies to deliver a complete, interoperable system that removes the complexities traditionally associated with private cellular.”

Stuart Waine, Director of Spry Fox Networks, systems integrator for the project, said: “Assured interoperability is the difference between a demo and a product. By testing integration continuously from day one across three real-world sites, we’ll give enterprises the confidence that a multi-vendor UK solution simply works.”
