Basingstoke, U. K.– With the new AGV-CPO series, Aerotech is launching powerful 2-axis laser scan heads that, according to the manufacturer, offer optimal value for money for numerous applications. The compact systems in the new CORE Performance class offer 22-bit resolution, minimal thermal drift and excellent dynamics, and are suitable for research and process development as well as for industrial precision machining.
“The AGV-CPO series is the ideal entry point into our high-precision galvo scanner technology – without compromising on control, stability or resolution,” says Bryan Germann, Product Manager at Aerotech Inc.

Scalable precision without additional effort

All AGV-CPO models – available with 10, 14 or 20 mm aperture – are based on the same CORE architecture as the larger AGV-HPO and AGV-XPO variants. These include dual digital encoders (64 μm pitch) to provide better accuracy, and the control electronics are external from the galvo for thermal decoupling and better long-term position stability. Optional direct water cooling for motors and galvo blocks, as well as an air-cooled mirror all help maintain thermal stability. Important for the design: the beam entry can be mounted on the right or left side of the CPO. Since the control is common across the scanner range using the Automation1 platform with the GL4 laser

scanner drive, processes can be seamlessly scaled from AGV-CPO to highest performance AGV-XPO without any hardware changes. “The added value of the CPO scan heads and motors lies in their control with our Automation1 motion control platform,” says Product Manager Bryan Germann.
For research and industry

With the new AGV-CPO 2-axis scan heads, Aerotech is introducing a cost-optimised entry-level solution for precise laser processing. “We are specifically targeting customers who we have not been able to serve with HPO/XPO galvos due to their 30-70% lower purchase price,” says Bryan Germann, explaining the market strategy. According to Aerotech experts, the new galvo scanners are suitable for micro-material processing, laser texturing, high-speed drilling and cutting, and ultra-fast laser applications. Functions such as Position Synchronised Output (PSO) and Infinite Field of View (IFOV) ensure precise laser control – even during dynamic movement.

The CPO series combines proven CORE performance with a slim motor design, dual encoders (64 μm pitch), optional water and air cooling, and efficient cabling – ideal for applications with moderate dynamics and high accuracy. The models with 10, 14 and 20 mm apertures enable economical system configurations without compromising stability and ease of use.

Aerotech provides standard and custom integration services to ensure rapid commissioning, from system tuning and parameterisation to complete documentation. All AGV-CPO models can be seamlessly combined with linear systems, rotary tables or complex motion platforms.

IFOV – Extended working range without compromise
With Infinite Field of View (IFOV), Aerotech offers a powerful solution for synchronising galvo scanners with linear or rotary servo axes. This enables seamless laser processing of even large components without having to stitch together multiple scan areas, eliminating errors caused by overlaps.
IFOV is based on a common control architecture in which scanner and axis movements are precisely coordinated in real time. Accelerations, current limits and trajectories are automatically adjusted and compensated. The result: high accuracy combined with increased processing speed – without any time-consuming parameterisation.
