Test with ITECH IT6600C Bi-Directional Programmable DC Power Supply

With the increasing application of the 12V/48V dual-battery system in mild-hybrid electric vehicles (MHEVs), the upgrade of automotive electrical architecture has been accelerated. Tesla has prominently announced that all new platforms will fully adopt the 48V system, further accelerating the industry’s transition to 48V. Nowadays, the limitations of the 12V system have become more apparent, and more and more automakers view the 48V system as a more reasonable development direction. It is becoming an inevitable trend for the 12V system to gradually fade out of history.

Infineon data shows that when the power demand exceeds 2kW, the overall cost of the 48V system is 18% lower than that of the 12V system. After the Bosch iBooster2.0 brake system adopts the 48V architecture, the manufacturing cost is reduced by 25%.

What are the advantages of 48V?

  • Reduce losses
  • Reduce wiring harness costs
  • Support higher power on-board equipment
  • Reduce emissions
