Avnet Cares awarded its latest round of community grants last month, with six grants being awarded across three states, and two programs that have global reach. Avnet reviews grants on a quarterly basis and accepts grants that focus on one of four areas: STEM, DEI, Environment and Communities in Crisis. Grants awarded in the last round include:
Future Stars, Inc: Support for their out-of-school time coding program that impacts youth from under-resourced communities in Phoenix, AZ.
Junior Achievement of South Central PA: Support of their STEM Summit – a day-long program that allows 9th and 10th grade students to explore STEM concepts, skills, and careers. The program reaches 11,000 students throughout the region.
Kids in Technology: STEM program from Charlotte, NC. Grant funding will support the expansion of the program into Gaffney, SC, home to an Avnet facility. Their program trains teachers to deliver STEM curriculum in the school system.
Open Source Hardware Association: Funding will support transportation and registration for underrepresented groups in tech to attend the Open Source Hardware Summit. The global event features world-renowned leaders from industry, academia, the arts, and maker communities.
Planet Water Foundation: Funding will underwrite the deployment of an AquaBlock emergency water filtration system, in response to a natural disaster. Each system can produce up to 1,500 liters of safe drinking water per hour, which is enough to support up to 10,000 people.
Swift Youth Foundation: Support of their afterschool and summer camp program, including STEAM curriculum, that serves youth in Phoenix, AZ, from under-resourced communities.
