Bangalore, India – element14 is now shipping the new SMU4000 Series with 4-quadrant PowerFlex technology from Aim-TTi. This compact and powerful all-in-one source measurement solution provides class-leading performance at an affordable price point for a 4-quadrant SMU.
Providing high current and power output combined with fast measurements and low glitch auto ranging measuring speed, the SMU4000 Series is a comprehensive solution for simplifying test applications. It is ideal for industrial product development and educational environments, battery charging/discharging applications, I-V characterising, semiconductor testing and much more.
The SMU4000 Series features touchscreen control coupled with an intuitive graphical user interface that provides a clear and easily navigable path through the test and measurement process. The fast and agile high power 4-quadrant voltage/current source features advanced, precise meters measuring 0.1µV and 100fA at 6.5-digit resolution. It also provides internal memory up to 100k measurements at up to 100k steps in a compact half-rack 2U casing. The SMU4000 can supply precise positive and negative voltages plus sourcing or sinking power while simultaneously measuring current and voltage for I-V characterising.
The added benefit of Aim-TTi’s PowerFlex technology ensures flexibility across a wide range of high and low voltage requirements. The SMU LINK function can be used to connect two SMUs to perform simultaneously via a handshake triggering system, effectively creating a fully functioning 2-channel SMU. This can be useful when testing three-leaded components such as small signal BJT’s, FET’s and more.
Two models offering a maximum 21V 3A or 210V 3A are now available for fast delivery from element14. Key features of the SMU4000 Series include:
- Ease of use: Eight pre-set options enable instant use of the SMU in its simplest form. This includes settings for power supply, current source, load, voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, insulation resistance meter and leakage current meter. The setup functions offer a convenient base from which settings can be edited using the manual setup mode configuration.
- Improved functionality: High precision DC, pulsed source and measurement capabilities have a built-in sweep setting that supports standard sweep parameters. This includes constant and pulsed sweep operation, double sweep functions and linear and logarithmic modes that are fully functional from the front panel. Arbitrary list sweeps of up to 100K points can be directly uploaded to the instrument via a flash drive or Test Bridge SMU software.
- Fast access to data: The Test Bridge SMU provides full instrument control of multiple SMU’s alongside additional enhanced features. The easy-to-use graphical interface allows advanced setups, lists and sequences to be created and directly applied to the SMU. Quick and efficient data download means results can be saved and exported as a .CSV file for further analysis. It can also be viewed in a tabular or graphical format within the Test Bridge SMU software.
James McGregor, Global Head of Test, Tools and Production Supplies at element14 says: “The SMU4000 Series is an exciting addition to the AIM-TTi portfolio available for fast delivery from element14. The underlying PowerFlex technology features an auto ranging system that provides a semi-constant power characteristic, enabling current capability to rise as voltage decreases. This means it achieves full instrument output power across much of the voltage range unlike conventional SMUs that can only achieve maximum power at the peak of each voltage range.”
