MILPITAS, Calif. — The Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) today unveiled its four key initiatives for 2025, marking a significant step forward in advancing the industry’s commitment to decarbonization and transparency. These initiatives are designed to sharpen the focus on decarbonization and resource optimization, accelerating industry-wide progress and continuing to foster collaboration across the segment. The SCC’s 2025 strategic initiatives include the following:

  • Aligning Data Collection and Analysis to Promote Transparency –The SCC will standardize and streamline data collection, analysis, and reporting through dashboards and guidelines. These applications will increase transparency into sector emissions. Providing a single source of truth and synergized methodologies will help in quickly identifying hot spots for emissions reduction action.
  • Abatement Strategies – Focused on advancing effective greenhouse gas (GHG) abatement technologies, the SCC will drive efforts to significantly reduce emissions associated with semiconductor manufacturing processes.
  • Renewable Energy Procurement and Adoption – The consortium will intensify efforts to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, with the goal of ensuring that more member companies are able to procure and adopt clean, renewable energy sources for production.
  • Sharing Energy Efficiency Best Practices – By facilitating knowledge-sharing among members, the SCC will promote energy-efficient solutions across the industry, enabling companies to rapidly scale impactful changes.

“We recognize that the path to sustainability is not just about individual company efforts, but about creating a unified industry approach to decarbonization,” said John Golightly, Chair of the SCC Governing Council. “These initiatives, which will be spearheaded by our existing working groups, will sharpen our focus on decarbonization and transparency, key tenets of the SCC, while ensuring we leverage our collective resources and knowledge to accelerate progress.”

The SCC also announced the 2025 Governing Council composition. Members re-elected for 2-year terms include:

  • John Golightly, ASM, who will continue to serve as SCC Chair
  • Natasha Hodas, Intel, who will continue to serve as SCC Vice-Chair
  • Chris Librie, Applied Materials
  • Dr. Seokho Kang, DuPont
  • Bruce Gall, Google
  • Henri Berthe, Schneider Electric

Newly elected member:

  • Pasquel Roquet, STMicroelectronics

Current members elected to 2-year terms in 2024:

  • Missy Bindseil, JSR
  • Shawn Covell, Lam Research
  • Katharina Westrich, Siemens AG
  • Yuji Ogino, Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TEL)

In addition to its strategic initiatives, the SCC has also released two new public reports from SCC Working Groups:

  • Toward a Shared View on the Climate Impact of Digital Technology: This report explores the broader positive climate impact of digital technology, underscoring the role of the semiconductor industry in shaping a more sustainable future and how to account for that in emissions calculations. Download the report here.
  • Overview of F-GHG and Nitrous Oxide Semiconductor Abatement Technologies: This report offers valuable insights into the latest advancements in abatement technologies for semiconductor manufacturing, focusing on Flourinated-GHG (F-GHG) and nitrous oxide emissions. Download the report here.

“These reports mark significant progress toward our commitment to transparency and collaboration,” said Peilun Sun, manager of the SCC. “They provide actionable insights and set a new benchmark for emissions reduction strategies in our sector.”

The Semiconductor Climate Consortium continues to serve as the premier organization fostering collaboration among semiconductor industry leaders to accelerate the sector’s transition to net-zero emissions. The 2025 initiatives and new leadership appointments are set to deliver results faster, engage more members, and enhance the collective ability to meet sustainability goals.
