New Delhi: The Solar Energy Society of India (SESI) organised a remarkable physical event on Wednesday to commemorate SOLSTICE – The Longest Day of the Year, also known as ‘Saur Urja Diwas’. The event took place in collaboration with the TERI School of Advanced Studies, and was attended by esteemed dignitaries, experts, and enthusiasts in the field of solar energy.

The event was skilfully hosted by Colonel B. Venkat, Registrar of the university, who ensured the smooth flow of the program. Highlighting the importance of joint collaboration between SESI and TERI School of Advanced Studies, the Vice-Chancellor of TERI delivered a welcome address emphasizing the significance of working together towards a sustainable future powered by solar energy. Notably, the event witnessed the presence of Almitra H. Patel, National Expert of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Patel commended the Solar Energy Society of India for their innovative concept of celebrating ‘Saur Urja Diwas’. She emphasised the significance of solar applications in addressing social and environmental concerns, particularly the need to prioritise e-waste management associated with solar and electric vehicles while preserving the sanctity of nature.

During the event, a panel discussion was held featuring highly experienced power sector professionals, Mr. V S Verma and Mr. G Girase. Mr. Verma shared valuable insights into the renewable energy sector, while Mr. Girase shed light on AgroSolar and its advantages in the rural sector.

Speaking at the event, Mr Prafulla Pathak, president SESI, highlighted the importance of the longer day and the role of solar energy in India’s sustainable future. Pathak stated, “As we celebrate the longest day of the year, we are reminded of the immense potential that solar energy holds for India. Solar power is a key driver for achieving energy independence, reducing carbon emissions, and creating a greener and cleaner environment. India is rapidly progressing in the solar sector, and each milestone we achieve brings us closer to a brighter future.”

Chief Guest Almitra H. Patel shared her insights on harnessing solar energy and creating awareness for ‘Saur Urja Diwas’. She stated, “Solar energy is a tremendous resource that can power our nation sustainably. We must actively promote the adoption of solar energy solutions across various sectors, raising awareness about the benefits they offer. Through collective efforts, we can create a movement towards renewable energy and pave the way for a cleaner and more resilient world.”

Dr. S M Ali, Director General of SESI, expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks, acknowledging the participants and contributors for their valuable insights and commitment to the solar energy cause.
