Gmunden – Wide input range, programmable outputs, and compact size make RECOM DC/DCs versatile.
The use of the latest circuit and fabrication technology has allowed RECOM to offer a new range of low-cost, encapsulated buck regulators in ultra-compact, thermally enhanced LGA and QFN packages with output current ratings of 1, 3, 10, and 20A.
The RPL-1.0 comes in just a 3 x 3mm LGA footprint, is only 2mm tall, and operates over an input range of 3 to 22V with an adjustable output of 0.6 to 12V. 1A output is available to an ambient temperature of more than 80°C, depending on input/output voltage combinations with operation up to 125°C ambient possible with derating. Efficiency is up to 95%.
The RPH-3.0 is in a 47-pad QFN package, 10 x 12mm footprint, 4mm height, and provides 3A output over an input range of 4.5 to 55V and an adjustable output range of 1 to 15V. Efficiency is up to 91%, and full output current can be taken to over 80°C at 12Vin and 3.3Vout, for example.
Part RPL-10 is rated at 10A output and is richly featured. In an LGA-M package just 7 x 7mm, 4.4mm high, the regulator has an input range of 4 to 16V and a programmable output of 0.6 to 5.5V. Efficiency is high at up to 94% allowing operation at up to 90°C at full load. Operating frequency is selectable between 600kHz and 800kHz, control is by constant on-time for fast transient response, and a pulse skipping mode maintains efficiency at light load.
Finally, the RPL-20 takes power density to a new level with its 20A rating from a programmable output of 0.6 to 5.5V. Input range is 4 to 16V, and efficiency is as high as 94%, enabling operation at up to 90°C ambient at full load. Package size is the same as the RPL-10 at 7 x 7mm, 4.4mm high, effectively doubling the power density. Operating frequency can be set between 600kHz and 1MHz, with forced continuous conduction and pulse skipping modes as selectable options.
All products described feature integrated magnetics and include remote on/off, a power good signal, and comprehensive protection against input under-voltage, over-temperature, short circuits, and output overload.
“These buck converters are ideal for use in tight spaces where high efficiency is also required,” comments Matthew Dauterive, MSc. product manager DC/DC of RECOM. “They excel in applications such as portable equipment, imaging systems, distributed power architectures, and power supplies to FGPAs as well as in general telecom and industrial uses.”
Parts include a three-year warranty, and samples and OEM pricing are available from authorized distributors, or directly from RECOM.
