VIAVI Solutions has expanded its family of rugged and reliable portable devices for last-mile fiber service turn-up and activation with two new all-in-one handheld testers for multi-gig power and service testing at data rates up to 10 Gbps. The new testers will be on display for the first time at VIAVI’s booth J1285 at the SCTE Tech Expo from September 29 – October 1 in Washington D.C.

Verifying multi-gig throughput and learning new technologies may present challenges for technicians. By supporting validation and troubleshooting of fiber, Ethernet, WiFi 7 and DOCSIS™ connections with speeds up to 10 Gbps in under one minute, the OneExpert Fiber and OneExpert HFC all-in-one handheld testers reduce learning time for technicians, helping speed up and simplify PON service deployment and maintenance.

OneExpert Fiber (ONX-700) validates Ethernet, Fiber and WiFi 7 connections, and the OneExpert HFC (ONX-720/ONX-730) provides additional support for DOCSIS service delivery and is ideal for cable operators looking to upgrade their existing OneExpert CATV to support PON / FTTx.

“These new versatile, rugged and integrated tools further reinforce VIAVI’s leadership in the fiber testing and service activation space,” said Kevin Oliver, Vice President and General Manager, Fiber and Access Solutions, VIAVI.  “By simplifying FTTx and DOCSIS service activation and maintenance, the OneExpert all-in-one instruments make testing up to 10 Gbps easier than ever before. We are thrilled to offer these go-to tools for fast, reliable multi-gig service activation, ensuring that last-mile installation is done right the first time and dramatically reducing time spent identifying and fixing problems in the field.”

The new, intuitive tools turn any technician into an expert for the end-to-end connectivity and performance testing of PON networks by providing access to pre-configured and customized test profiles, and incorporating automatic pass/fail notification functionality. OneCheck single-button testing can be used to validate wired service delivery from the Gateway or ONT, provide pre-delivery speed validation of the PON or P2P Fiber network, verify that customers are getting the WiFi signal strength and the speed they need, and validate DOCSIS service delivery over Coax or Ethernet.

The new IP54-rated tools are weatherproof, drop-tested to 1 m and built to perform reliably for many years. Modular design provides future-proof capabilities and reduces cost of ownership by allowing technicians to keep up with evolving technologies such as 25G and 50G service testing. Compatibility with VIAVI TPA (Test Process Automation) ensures technician process compliance by guiding workflows and standardizing test procedures. It also allows field personnel to operate at maximum efficiency by notifying them of firmware upgrades and additional instrument options as they become available.
