Avnet will be supported by several semiconductor supplier partners and cloud platform providers at Embedded World 2023 to demonstrate real-world solutions based on IoTConnect.
IoTConnect is Avnet’s solution accelerator software for developing, deploying and maintaining connected products in a scalable, fast, simple and secure way.
Embedded World 2023 is set for March 14-16 in Nuremburg, Germany. Visitors to the conference will see demonstrations featuring IoTConnect at the following booths:
- Microchip (Hall 3A, Booth 3A-443)
- IoTConnect on Microchip’s WFI32 showcasing Secure Device Management (SDM)
- AWS (Hall 4, Booth 4-550)
- AWS on IoTConnect
- Microchip (Hall 3A, Booth 3A-443)
- IoTConnect SDM on Microchip ATECC608 Trust&Go
- Microsoft (Hall 4, Booth 4-410)
- NXP (Hall 4A, Booth 4A-222)
- Connected Tractor- Windows IoT 10 Enterprise with IoTConnect running on i.MX8
- Avnet Silica booth (Hall 3A, Booth 3A-111)
- Demos include:
- IoTConnect running on STM32U5
- Windows 10 IoT Enterprise with IoTConnect running on i.MX8
- Demos include:
- EBV Elektronik (Hall 3A, Booth 3A-125)
- AWS on IoTConnect
- IoTConnect on PSOC (see below)
- Avnet Abacus (Hall 3A, Booth 3A-125)
- IoTConnect on Panasonic 9520
Visitors to these booths can dive deeper into the demos at the show. For example, the connected HVAC demonstrator combines pressure sensors from TE Connectivity with a Wi-Fi-enabled microcontroller development board from Microchip. Information from the sensors is collected by the microcontroller and processed using IoTConnect software. The processed data is then passed to another IoTConnect component running on the cloud platform. A web-based dashboard, also generated using IoTConnect technology, allows the sensor data to be monitored and actions to be sent back to the board.
The demo on the EBV booth shows IoTConnect running on a PSOC62S2 and Optiga Trust M secure element from Infineon. It integrates several sensors and connects to a cloud platform over Wi-Fi using a muRata Type 1LV module, which is based on Infineon’s CYW43012 chipset.
Lou Lutostanski, vice president of IoT, Avnet, said: “IoTConnect addresses two critical requirements in IoT. The first is development of secure, connected products using the limited resources found in endpoints. The second is accessing the massive capabilities offered by cloud platforms. Our unique technology does both, making it safer, faster and easier for OEMs to leverage the latest improvements in technology.”
IoTConnect includes software components for both endpoints and cloud platforms. This creates a secure end-to-end connection that provides the fast and scalable way for OEMs to develop and deploy IoT solutions. IoTConnect components run on the industry’s smallest microcontrollers and the largest cloud platforms from AWS and Microsoft Azure.
One of the key advantages of IoTConnect is the abstraction it provides between an IoT endpoint application and cloud-based microservices. As an example, using IoTConnect, OEMs can develop smart sensors that take advantage of the latest machine learning algorithms, without the huge development effort needed to implement AI at the edge or in the cloud. IoTConnect also manages device provisioning, over-the-air updates, and the secure data path between the two points.
IoTConnect application accelerators
An application accelerator, based on IoTConnect, is a pre-packaged, pre-enabled suite of software components designed to get OEMs to market faster. It combines secure device management with dashboards to capture and present data from your endpoints. It provides a simple way to access advanced cloud-based features and add value to application without increasing time to market.
Avnet has already developed application accelerators for many end markets. These include smart agriculture, smart factories, the connected workplace, smart offices, factory automation and many more.
Each accelerator is pre-integrated and configured for an end-application and can be customized to meet an OEM’s specific requirements. The majority of functionality is already included, and, in some cases, little or no further development will be needed. This pre-configured approach significantly reduces the development effort and enables OEMs to move rapidly through the integration and test phases, and on to mass deployment.
Partnering with cloud platform providers
Avnet is now partnering with AWS and Microsoft to provide its IoTConnect technology to OEMs using either platform. Together, AWS and Microsoft Azure capture the majority of the IoT cloud platform market. IoTConnect integrates with both, giving OEMs the flexibility to use their preferred platform.
