STEM education shines through with Raspberry Pi’s Coolest Projects, a global event that Avnet is proud to support this year. This initiative celebrates young creators and the amazing things they build using technology and coding.

What is Coolest Projects?

Hosted by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Coolest Projects provides a platform for young people worldwide to showcase their coding and digital-making skills. Open to participants age 18 and under, the event fosters creativity, problem-solving, and a passion for technology. With both an online showcase and in-person events in multiple countries, Coolest Projects brings together a global community of makers.

Avnet’s role in supporting STEM

Avnet is one of the few electronics companies sponsoring Coolest Projects, reinforcing their dedication to STEM education. As a sponsor, Avnet directly supports the virtual competition, which welcomes participants from around the world, helping young innovators bring their ideas to life.

How Coolest Projects works

Coolest Projects is open to young people of all experience levels. Participants can submit a brand-new creation or a project they’ve already built and are proud of. Entries are categorized into one of seven areas:

  • Scratch
  • Games
  • Web
  • Mobile Apps
  • Hardware
  • Advanced Programming
  • Artificial Intelligence (NEW for 2025!)

Every project is reviewed by a panel of judges who provide valuable feedback, making the experience both positive and educational. Finally, projects are showcased to a global audience.

Why Coolest Projects matters

The impact of Coolest Projects is undeniable. In 2024 alone, 7,197 young creators from 43 countries showcased their projects, ranging from an app that tracks UV exposure to a Scratch game featuring a doughnut-clicking challenge.

By supporting Coolest Projects, Avnet is not only encouraging innovation but also helping build a diverse pipeline of future tech professionals.

Avnet’s history with Raspberry Pi

Farnell, an Avnet Company, has a long-standing partnership and history with Raspberry Pi as its longest-serving partner. In addition to offering the complete range of Raspberry Pi single-board computers (SBCs) for professional, commercial, educational, and home applications, Farnell is the exclusive licensee manufacturer for the Pi 4 (4GB/8GB) and Pi 5 (4GB/8GB/16GB) and serves as the exclusive distributor of these boards to the Raspberry Pi Approved Reseller network.
