ELGi Celebrates 13-Year Association with Coimbatore Marathon

Coimbatore – Elgi Equipments Limited, one of the world’s leading air compressor manufacturers, proudly marks 13 years of association with the Coimbatore Marathon, continuing its commitment to promoting health, wellness, and community well-being. As the “Powered By” partner, ELGi supports one of the city’s most significant sporting and social impact events, bringing together over 25,000 runners, including 1,725+ ELGi employees and their families.

Organised by the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF), the Coimbatore Marathon was conceived as a platform to raise awareness about cancer and support patients and their families. Over the years, the marathon has grown into a landmark event in the region, becoming synonymous with cancer awareness and community participation. Proceeds from the event have enabled CCF to expand its initiatives, including early detection and screening camps, counselling and follow-up care, palliative services, treatment support, and financial assistance for cancer patients covering surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, diagnostics, hospitalisation, and rehabilitation.

Speaking on ELGi’s continued association with the event, Mr. Anvar Jay Varadaraj, Chief Operating Officer, Elgi Equipments Limited, said:

“ELGi is privileged to power the Coimbatore Marathon for the 13th consecutive year and to partner once again with the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation for a cause that truly matters. The participation of over 1,725 ELGi employees and their families this year reflects our collective commitment to spreading awareness about cancer and supporting care initiatives. For us, the marathon has become a powerful binding force, bringing together fitness, well-being, and social responsibility. We wish every participant the very best and remain proud to contribute to CCF’s treatment, rehabilitation, and community palliative care services through this initiative.”

Mr. Ramesh Ponnuswami, Executive President – Operations and ELGi Business System, Elgi Equipments Limited, and Race Director, Coimbatore Marathon, added:

“At ELGi, we believe excellence is built through strong systems, disciplined execution, and a deep commitment to people—and these principles guide how the Coimbatore Marathon is organised and delivered. We are humbled by the overwhelming response this year, with over 25,000 participants and 1,500+ volunteers coming together in the true spirit of ‘Let’s Ko Kovai!’ Beyond race day, our focus is on creating a safe, well-orchestrated, and enriching participant experience, leveraging technology, best practices, and the collective expertise of our teams. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the start line on Sunday, 21 December, and to supporting their fitness and well-being journeys well beyond the marathon.”

The event features a 21.1 km Half Marathon, 10 km Run, 5 km Timed Run, 5 km Walk, and a Corporate Relay, supported by a fully equipped course with hydration points, medical support, ambulances, timing systems, and a professionally managed finish area, ensuring a safe and memorable experience for participants.

Over the past decade, ELGi’s partnership with the Coimbatore Marathon has played a significant role in fostering a culture of fitness in the city while advancing awareness and action around cancer care. As the marathon continues to grow in scale and impact, ELGi remains committed to supporting initiatives that create lasting social value and healthier communities.
