As Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast now begin to move from a technical standard into everyday use cases, Swedish startup Emendion is helping shape that development globally. “We are at the beginning of a major technology shift in wireless audio, and Emendion’s goal is to develop world-leading products that make a difference in people’s everyday lives,” says Nils Östlund, co-founder of Emendion.
Aspen Aura is an ultra-light wireless miniature microphone with studio-quality sound that was launched during 2025 – already then with Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast. Over the past few months, the microphone has continued to be refined while the technology has gained increasing traction in the market. With Aspen Aura, Emendion shows how next-generation Bluetooth audio can be used to share live sound with many listeners at the same time, without traditional pairing or custom-built equipment.
“LE Audio and Auracast will change how people experience audio in everyday life. As support becomes more common in consumer products, audio broadcasting can move from expensive specialist installations to technology that people already use every day, such as hearing aids, headphones, phones, tablets and computers,” Nils explains.
From lecture halls to hearing assistance
Unlike traditional Bluetooth, where one audio source is usually connected to one receiver, Auracast makes it possible to broadcast audio to an unlimited number of receivers at the same time.
This opens up new use cases including:
- lectures and education
- guided tours
- meetings and conferences
- public environments
- hearing assistance and accessibility
Swedish-developed system for the new standard
Aspen Aura combines an ultra-compact microphone with Auracast broadcasting and a USB-C receiver for desktop and mobile devices. The microphone weighs 5 grams and can transmit to compatible receivers within a range of up to 20 meters without pairing. The system is developed for situations where one speaker needs to reach many listeners with minimal technical setup.
“We are driven by developing world-leading products that make it easier and more accessible than ever before to share audio in public environments and in people’s everyday lives. There is growing interest in this type of audio solution, and we are in ongoing dialogue with several companies in the Nordics regarding our products,” Nils Östlund concludes.
