TAIYO YUDEN nine new multilayer metal power inductors

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LinkedIn

Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Katsuya Sase, Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) has begun mass production of nine items in four sizes of its MCOILâ„¢ LSCN series of multilayer metal power inductors, including “LSCND0805FET1R2MJ” (0.8 x 0.45 x 0.65 mm, maximum height) and “LSCND1008HKT1R5MF” (1.0 x 0.8 x 0.80 mm, maximum height).
These products are power inductors for choke coil applications in power supply circuits of wearable devices such as smartwatches and TWS (Note 1), and smartphones.
“LSCND0805FET1R2MJ” reduces the mounting area by approximately 30% compared to the company’s previous smallest multilayer metal power inductor size (1.0 x 0.5 x 0.33 mm). Furthermore, the “LSCND1008HKT1R5MF” (1.0 x 0.8 x 0.80 mm, inductance value 1.5 μH, DC superposition allowable current value 1.2 A) maintains the same characteristics as our conventional product “LSCNB1210EKT1R5MB” (1.25 x 1.05 x 0.5 mm, inductance value 1.5 μH, DC superposition allowable current value 1.2 A) while reducing the mounting area by approximately 40%. Both achieve industry-leading*1 DC superposition characteristics and miniaturization.
Mass production of these products began in April 2026 at our subsidiary, Wakayama Taiyo Yuden (Hidaka-gun, Wakayama Prefecture). Our sample price is 50 yen per unit.

Wearable devices require miniaturization, high performance, and long operating time as they are devices worn on the body. Especially with TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earbuds, there is a demand for increased functionality, including noise cancellation, support for high-resolution audio, and advanced sensors for detecting attachment/detachment and acquiring location information. Smartphones are also becoming more sophisticated, with AI-powered image and video editing, and voice and text translation. At the same time, there is a demand for high efficiency to achieve long operating times with limited battery capacity while keeping the size of the casing down.
Therefore, power supply circuits need to achieve both miniaturization and high efficiency, and such power supply circuits require small, high-current power inductors.
Taiyo Yuden has expanded its lineup of MCOILâ„¢ LSCN series metal power inductors, which use metal-based magnetic materials with high DC superposition characteristics and a layered structure that is advantageous for miniaturization. Moving forward, we will continue to respond to market needs and aim for higher functionality, higher reliability, and further miniaturization.

*1 As of April 2026, as 0805 size and 1008 size metal power inductors (according to Taiyo Yuden)

â– Applications
Choke coil applications for power supply circuits of wearable devices such as smartwatches and TWS, and smartphones.
