Nuremberg, Germany— GigaDevice, a leading semiconductor company specializing in Flash memory, 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs), sensors, and analog products today officially announced the launch of the GD32M531 series 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) specifically tailored for motor control applications. Powered by the Arm® Cortex®-M33 core, the series integrates dedicated hardware accelerators for motor control and highly integrated peripheral resources. With exceptional computing performance, precise control capability, and industrial-grade high reliability, it achieves accurate control of dual motors + PFC, providing a high-efficiency and cost-effective solution for various home appliance application scenarios such as air conditioner outdoor units, air source heat pumps, washing machines/dryers, dishwashers, and multi-burner induction cookers. Samples and development boards of the GD32M531 series MCU are now available, and mass production and supply will officially start in April.

Core Technological Breakthrough: Dedicated Hardware Acceleration for High-Precision Motor Control

The GD32M531 series is built on a hardware architecture optimized specifically for motor control, achieving major improvements in computing power, control precision, and protection mechanisms:

  • Built-in hardware accelerators for trigonometric functions and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM), designed specifically for FOC algorithms. It reduces CPU workload, improves efficiency of sensorless FOC algorithms, enhances motor speed control precision, and lowers operating noise and improves energy efficiency.
  • Equipped with 2 channels of enhanced AD-Timers, It supports independent driving of two groups of FOC. With hardware phase-shifted ADC trigger linkage, it realizes synchronous and precise current and voltage sampling, eliminating delays common in traditional software-triggered systems.
  • An integrated POC&GTOC (Port Output Controller & General Timer Output Controller) enables filtered overcurrent protection without CPU intervention, achieving microsecond level response time.

Combining Performance and Reliability

Strong Computing Capabilities

Adopting the Arm® Cortex®-M33 core running up to 180MHz, it integrates DSP extensions and a floating-point unit. With up to 705 Coremark® and 267 DMIPS, it easily handles complex FOC algorithms. It is equipped with 256KB Flash, 64KB Data-Flash, and 32KB SRAM, sufficient for motor control program storage and real-time data processing. Flash and SRAM both support ECC to ensure data integrity and system reliability.

Wide Voltage and Temperature Support

It supports a wide voltage supply range of 2.7V~5.5V and operates from -40℃ to 105℃ (junction up to 125℃). It offers strong ESD performance (HBM ±4kV, CDM ±1kV) and withstands ±200mA latch-up current at 125°C, ensuring stable operation in harsh environments such as kitchens, outdoor systems, and industrial settings.

Highly Integrated Peripherals

The MCU provides rich communication interfaces including 4 UARTs, 1 I2C, 1 SPI, and 1 CAN 2.0B. Three dedicated CP-Timers and four GP-Timers f support advanced control such as interleaved PFCA one-line single-wire debugging function simplifies the development and mass production testing.

Two ADC modules support synchronous or asynchronous sampling with independent sample-and-hold circuits, enabling simultaneous acquisition of up to five channels. Each ADC supports four nested conversion sequences for flexible multi-parameter control. The DAC can serve as comparator input to enhance analog processing precision.

Industrial-Grade Functional Safety

The GD32M531 STL is IEC 60730 Class B certified, meeting home appliance functional safety standards. Integrated CRC, UID, code protection, and full ECC coverage enhance system security and compliance.

Broad Application Coverage

Available in LQFP64 and LQFP48 packages, The GD32M531 supports diverse motor control applications. At the same time, its highly integrated design can reduce the number of external components, help customers optimize BOM costs, and shorten product R&D cycles.

  • Dual motor + PFC control: air conditioner outdoor units, air source heat pumps, washing machines/dryers, dishwashers, multi-burner induction cookers, etc.
  • Frequency conversion control: industrial inverters, industrial water pumps, industrial fans, industrial robot joints, etc.
  • Multi-channel PWM control: photovoltaic inverter MPPT, household energy storage bidirectional DCDC, charging pile fast charging, etc.
