Delta Electronics’ Bengaluru R&D Facility

Bengaluru— A guided tour of Delta Electronics India’s R&D facility offered a clear view of the scale and depth of indigenous innovation powering India’s growth in power electronics, renewable energy, and electric mobility.

Chief Technology Officer Shashidhar Mathapati led the walkthrough of the 61,000 sq. meter, LEED Gold–certified campus, outlining how the centre has rapidly expanded its engineering strength. The facility currently employs 385+ R&D engineers, with plans to increase this to 750 within the next three years.

The high-voltage labs formed the first leg of the visit. Here, 33 kV test systems, renewable inverters, and containerised data-centre solutions — all developed in India — undergo stringent validation cycles. Equipment is tested in walking chambers that simulate extreme conditions between –40°C and 125°C, allowing engineers to ensure reliability for a wide range of applications.
“Investing in advanced labs saves engineering hours and accelerates product development,” Mathapati explained.

The automotive engineering division, supported by 100 specialists, showcased its work on onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, and integrated powertrains. Thousands of automated test cases validate the performance and durability of each solution.
“Automotive applications demand million-dollar precision. Our lifecycle management ensures 10-year customer support,” Mathapati added.

Delta’s strong market position was also highlighted. The company holds over 63% share of India’s telecom-rectifier segment and supplies UPS systems to global data-centre customers. The R&D centre additionally develops a broad range of EV chargers — from 700W portable units to commercial battery-swapping stations for two- and three-wheelers.

Delta’s long-term investment commitment underpins these capabilities. Of the $500 million investment announced in 2015, the company has already utilized 65%, with full deployment expected by 2027. This expansion strengthens Delta’s smart-manufacturing and high-voltage product capabilities.
“We’re among the few Indian players capable of designing and producing high-voltage systems at scale without depending on external platforms,” Mathapati said.

Delta’s commitment to building advanced power and energy solutions from India, for India and global markets reinforces its growing role in the country’s renewable-energy and electric-mobility transition.
