MPO-QR Connectors from R&M

Bangalore – R&M, the globally active Swiss developer and provider of high-end infrastructure solutions for data and communications networks, has been using above-average testing guidelines for its MPO fiber optic connectors for years. «Our current standardized tests prove that R&M’s MPO-QR connectors, that are available all over the world, reach the market-leading benchmarks at all times,» says Dr. Hannes Grubinger, CPMO at R&M.

A comparison of test results from recent months show that the two connector variants MPO-QR and MTP® are 100% compatible and comparable. «The MPO-QR connectors from R&M transmit light signals just as brilliantly and reliably as other top products. As ultra-low-loss connectors, they unconditionally support the ever-increasing transmission rates in FO networks, for example in AI data centers,» says Hannes Grubinger.

In the test, the MPO-QR multiple fiber connector from R&M delivers attenuation values that match those of
top products on the fiber optic market. The QR plug-in mechanism is operated via the strain relief sleeve. This makes it easier to access the connectors in high-density patch panels.

Why are test results of MPO connectors so important?

It is becoming increasingly important for buyers and users to know and distinguish between insertion loss and return loss measurements of fiber optic connectors. Multiple fiber connectors such as MPO and MTP® connectors are decisive links in high-density fiber optic networks, whether in data centers, at Internet hubs or in broadband supply. Precision plays an even greater role in the case of these connectors, as up to 24 fibers have to be routed in parallel in a 16-square-millimeter endface and aligned to the exact micrometer.

How can MPO and MTP® connectors be compared?

The multiple fiber connector types MPO and MTP® are two common options with different capacities. The selection criteria include the housing material, the manufacturing process, the solution for polarity change, the design and robustness of the guide pins, the planned transmission distances, bandwidths, fiber densities, scaling, mating cycles, local operating conditions and the budget.

Conclusion

«High-end MPO and MTP® connectors will achieve identical values,» concludes R&M after the tests. Both connector types are excellent options for FO networks.

  • MPO connectors are considered low-cost, versatile and ideal for applications in data centers. «With quality monitoring, R&M ensures that MPO-QR always achieves the highest quality grade.»
  • MTP® connectors are characterized by robust reliability, twist-safe guide pins and durability.

R&M offers cable assemblies with both types: MTP® connectors from USConec and high-end MPO-QR manufactured in-house. Both connector variants meet the high optical requirements for DC cabling. MPO-QR from R&M also offers the following additional features:

  • Quick release operation
  • MPO ferrule with a floating mount
  • MDoD: QR code on measurement log
  • Optional: monitoring via inteliPhy tag
