Bengaluru – Owners ID, an India-built smart recovery-tech startup focused on helping people recover lost valuables through privacy-safe QR technology, has raised $260,000 in pre-seed funding from Dubai-based VC firm Crucifer Investments.

According to industry estimates, India witnesses nearly 82 million lost-item-related incidents annually across categories including luggage, keys, electronics, wallets, passports, and personal valuables. Globally, the figure exceeds 319 million cases every year.
The Bengaluru based startup plans to utilize the funds toward product development, technology enhancement, manufacturing scale-up, mobile app improvements, AI-powered recovery systems, brand expansion, and global market growth.
Founded by Jesintha Louis, who previously built and exited enterprise cloud company G7 CR Technologies following its acquisition by Noventiq, say the idea emerged from a simple real-world problem — most lost items are never returned because people have no easy way to contact the owner.
Positioned at the intersection of smart recovery, digital identity, and consumer safety technology, Owners ID is building what it calls a “digital identity layer” for physical belongings across pets, people, vehicles, luggage, electronics, and personal valuables.
The company’s smart QR technology enables finders to instantly contact owners of lost items without exposing personal phone numbers or private information, making recovery faster, simpler, and more accessible globally.
Speaking on the occasion, Jesintha Louis, Founder, Owners ID, said, “Millions of people lose valuables every year, but in most cases, the item is already found by someone. The real challenge is enabling the finder to contact the owner instantly and safely. This is where Owners ID comes into picture as we have built a practical and affordable solution for everyday consumers. Our long-term vision is to build a universal digital identity system for physical belongings.”
Owners ID focuses on instant recovery and owner connectivity through globally accessible QR technology that works without batteries, charging, or hardware dependency. Users can activate a smart QR tag, attach it to valuables such as luggage, passports, wallets, keys, electronics, pet accessories, or documents, and receive instant notifications if someone scans the tag after finding the item.
The finder does not need to install an app, significantly reducing friction and improving recovery chances. The platform works globally across Android and iPhone devices using standard smartphone cameras and QR technology.
Owners ID believes India is uniquely positioned for mass adoption of affordable recovery technology due to widespread smartphone penetration, rapid QR adoption post-COVID, growing travel volumes, and increasing digital-first consumer behavior.
