Swindon Silicon Systems will exhibit at electronica 2026, inviting engineers to discuss how custom silicon can help meet demanding performance requirements within tighter power budgets.

Application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design and supply specialist Swindon Silicon Systems, a Sensata Technologies company, will explore how ASIC design can integrate functionality and tailor power use to a product’s requirements, reflecting the show’s energy efficiency theme. Visitors can find the team at stand C4.200.

The international electronics trade fair, electronica 2026, will take place at Messe München in Germany from 10 to 13 November. The event will address topics including artificial intelligence, cyber resilience and energy efficiency under the theme “Empowering the All Electric Society.”

Delivering greater functionality without increasing power consumption presents an architectural challenge for electronic designers. Combining multiple standard components can increase board area, external interfaces and overall system power. Engineers must therefore consider how component selection and integration affect the finished product’s energy requirements.

Custom silicon allows selected analogue and digital functions to be integrated into a device designed around the application. In addition to reducing component count and board area, this gives engineers greater control over power use. Where supported by the architecture and silicon process, techniques such as clock gating and power gating can reduce power consumption when functions are inactive.

“Energy efficiency starts with the product requirements and the architecture chosen to meet them,” said Ross Turnbull, Director of Business Development and Product Engineering at Swindon Silicon Systems. “Engineers need to understand which functions must operate continuously, which can remain inactive and where standard components add unnecessary overhead. Custom silicon gives us the flexibility to design around those requirements while considering performance, production volume and product lifetime.”

The business case depends on more than comparing the price of an ASIC with individual catalogue components. Development investment should be considered alongside recurring component, assembly and production test costs. Forecast volume, expected yield and the intended production lifetime all influence whether an ASIC programme is commercially viable.

For industrial and automotive products with long production lifecycles, Swindon Silicon Systems can also support planned obsolescence management. Depending on individual programme requirements, this may include last-time buys, wafer storage or transferring a design to another silicon process.

At electronica, Swindon Silicon Systems’ specialists will be available to discuss how visitors can meet power, space and performance requirements through custom silicon, alongside the development investment, production testing and supply planning needed to support an ASIC programme.

To discuss your product requirements with Swindon Silicon Systems at electronica 2026, book a meeting or visit stand C4.200.
