SHIRWAL, India – TE Connectivity, a world leader in connectors and sensors, has invested approximately US$16.5 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Shirwal, India. The site’s second expansion adds approximately 16,700 square meters and new manufacturing capabilities and an integrated tool shop. TE inaugurated the expanded facility on Oct. 27, with operations beginning on Nov. 1.
India’s vehicle production rose to 6.49 million units in 2025 according to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), reflecting the country’s growing importance as an automotive manufacturing base. Continued investment in the Shirwal site is part of TE Automotive’s long-term growth strategy in India. By investing ahead of anticipated demand, TE is increasing local manufacturing capacity to grow alongside its customers.
“As vehicles become more electrified and connected, Indian auto manufacturers need local manufacturing partners that can support increasingly complex requirements,” said Torsten Schierholz, SVP & GM Auto EMIA. “This investment prepares Shirwal for that next phase of growth. It strengthens our manufacturing capabilities in India and reflects our long-term commitment to supporting customers through a combination of local expertise and TE’s global technology.”
The expansion goes beyond adding manufacturing space. New local capabilities include stamping and plating, alongside an integrated tool shop, bringing tooling and production together on site. The facility uses a flow-oriented manufacturing layout designed to support efficient production as volumes increase, enabling up to three times today’s production capacity.
First built in 2009 and expanded in 2018, the Shirwal site now spans more than 36300 square meters on 25 acres. Primarily an Automotive facility, it also supports TE’s Industrial and Commercial Transportation business in India, reflecting its role within TE’s wider operations in the country.
